Bucs almost back to full strength

Posted on Friday, March 05, 2010 - 14:02

The recent break as a result of the FIFA international window came as a blessing for the Buccaneers as it has allowed some of the club’s injured players to recover ahead of Absa Premiership clash against Bloemfontein Celtic tomorrow.

The club’s medical staff had been working extremely hard in the past few weeks to clear the medical room which was starting to resemble a hospital ward.

Fortunately, they (medical team) were able to work their magic and get the majority of the injured players back on their feet.

According to information on our (Orlandopiratesfc.com) desk, attack midfielder Gert Schalkwyk has recovered from a groin injury, and has been cleared to face his former teammates.

This recovery follows that of Teko Modise, who has since recovered from his ankle injury - as seen in his full shift in the recent international friendly encounter between South Africa and Namibia.

Although both Schalkwyk and Modise are declared fit to play and have traveled with the squad to Bloemfontein this morning, forward Thulasizwe Mbuyane, who have since recovered from a slight thigh injury sustained at training on the eve of our CAF Champions League match in Port Elizabeth last weekend, has been a surprise exclusion from head coach Rudolf Krol’s the 18-man squad set to confront Siwelele in Mangaung.

Meanwhile, the only outstanding casualties under our medical supervision are Benson Mhlongo (knee) and Siphelele Mthembu (groin), who both have no return date set yet.
